- Project: Airport Rail Station
- Client: RnR/Qatar Rail
- Location: Hamad Airport
Equipment/Machines used:
Trucks, lifting gears, mobile cranes, scaffolding, excavators, telehandlers, forklifts, back propping, wire saws and floor saws.
Scope of work:
The original concrete shell of the rail station was redesigned due to this extensive area of the structure that had to be cut out. JMCIs scope included propping, cutting large concrete blocks up and lifting them out in sections.
How the work was executed:
A detailed set of propping, cutting, and lifting plans was drawn up. To start with the propping towers had to place in accordance with the drawings and cutting plans.
There were various sections of the station to be cut out some weighing many hundreds of tonnes these had to be cut into liftable blocks using a diamond wire saw cutting, the sections on average weighed 40 tonnes.
Lifting points were provided by using chemically fixed anchors to hold in place lifting plates so the concrete blocks could be lifted out using mobile cranes of up 500 tonnes.
